Lithuanian League, Games 1-2: September 22-29, 2007
Mindaugas Lukauskis - Lietuvos Rytas Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius has gotten off to the best possible start this season in the Lithuanian League, blowing out Alytus on Thursday and Suduva-Arvi on Saturday in its first two games. L. Rytas is joined by ULEB Cup newcomer Siauliai and Nevezis as the lone undefeated teams after the first week of action. Defending champion Zalgiris Kaunas has not played yet. Mindaugas Lukauskis led six L. Rytas scorers in double figures with 19 points in a 62-112 road thrashing of Alytus. The visitors led by 10 after 10 minutes, increased the cushion to 31-50 at halftime and continued to pour it on for an easy win. Andrius Slezas and Arturas Jomantas added 15 each, Matt Nielsen and Kenan Bajramovic were good for 13 apiece, Chuck Eidson posted 10, while Hollis Price dished 8 assists in his debut. Marius Janisius paced Alytus with 25. In their next game, Eidson led the way with 20 as no fewer than eight players scored in double digits as part of a 114-65 victory. Bajramovic added 18, Nielsen, Price and Marijonas Petravicius all scored 12, Mindaugas Lukauskis had 11 and Slezas and Martynas Gecevicius accounted for 10 each. Virginijus Sirvydis and Andrius Maneikis led Suduva-Arvi with 13 each. Siauliai needed to work a bit harder, topping Suduva-Arvi 72-81 and the next night beating Aisciai-Atletas 73-61. Antonio Grant had 19 points and Saulius Kuzminskas posted 18 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocked shots as Siauliai dominated inside against Atletas. Donatas Zavackas added 14, while Gintautas Vileita paced the visitors with 22. Nevezis's two wins came on the road, winning at Neptunas 73-80 and at Atletas 85-99. Atletas, the only team to play three games in the opening week, notched its only win against Techasas, 101-66, thanks to Egidijus Dimsa's 25 points.
