Swiss League, Regular Season, Game 22: March 19, 2008
The Geneva Devils won their final game of the Swiss League regular season on Wednesday to clinch the eighth and final spot in the playoffs. The Devils beat Lausanne Basket 81-90 on the road to improve to 10-12, one win more than Sdent BBC Nyon, which topped Meyrin Grand-Saconnex 67-77, but finished out of the playoffs in ninth place. The Geneva- Lausanne matchup featured the two highest-scoring players of the week, as Rashard Lee of Geneva and Harvey Van Stein of Lausanne netted 32 points apiece. Geneva will face defending champion Benetton Fribourg Olympic in the best-of-five quarterfinals. Fribourg slumped to an 83-55 defeat at the hands of SAV Vacallo Basket in its finale. Nikola Dacevic paced Vacallo wil 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcus Sloan scored 13 for Fribourg. The other quarterfinal matchups feature Vacallo against BBC Monthey, Lugano Tigers against Sion Herens, and Birstal Starwings against BC Boncourt. Interestingly, Sion defeated Lugano 86-80 Wednesday in a preview of their series.
