Turk Telekom is the Turkish Opel Cup champion! Turk Telekom lifted its first Turkish Cup title in front of its fans, as the final eight took place in Ankara this weekend. The team had made it to the Turkish Cup final in 2001 and 2003 but managed to lift the trophy by downing Oyak Renault 61-80 in the title game on Sunday. Khalid El-Amin led the winners and earned Turkish Cup MVP honors with 25 points on 5-for-11 three-pointers. Chris Williams added 16 and 7 rebounds while Erwin Dudley had 11 points for Turk Telekom, that had edged Fenerbahce Ulker 73-72 in the semifinals yesterday and topped Benvit 82-91 on Friday to round a perfect weekend. John Monwell had 14 points for Oyak, Biyik Ozgur added 12 and Dal Nedim 11. El-Amin led a 10-0 run that allowed Turk Telekom to get a 18-26 lead after 10 minutes. Oyak struggled to score in the second quarter, as Turk Telekom only allowed 9 points in this period. Meanwhile, Dudley, Williams and El-Amin fueled a 1-13 run that broke tha game open, 19-39, early in the second quarter. Nedim brought Oyak within 27-43 at halftime. El-Amin led a 0-7 run that left no doubt about his team's power, 27-50, right after the break. Oyak kept trying and managed to get within 59-67 with 3 minutes to go, but Williams and El-Amin sealed the outcome down the stretch.
