Croatian Kresimir Cosic Cup final: February 21, 2009
Alan Anderson - CibonaCibona downed Zagreb rival Zagreb CO 73-63 to revenge a loss in last season's Croatian Cup final and win the title that bears the name of basketball legend Kresimir Cosic. Baskets by Earl Calloway and Alan Anderson gave Cibona a 5-0 lead, but it didn't take Zagreb long to even the score at 7-7 on a free throw by Luka Zoric. Anderson hit the last shot of the first quarter to make it 18-15 at the first short break. Defenses dominated the low-scoring second quarter, and it was 29-25 at halftime. Cibona opened the second half with a 6-0 run for a 35-25 lead, that reached 41-30 by the middle of the third quarter, but Krunoslav Simon led a Zagreb comeback, and with 10 minutes to go Zagreb was in front at 46-48. Anderson came through with a three-point play to make it 51-50, giving Cibona the lead for good. Robert Troha and Vedran Vukusic stepped up with straight triples for Cibona, and though Zagreb would come as close as 64-61 on a jumpshot by Ante Tomic, Vedran Princ was ready with yet another Cibona triple and Anderson sealed the victory with 6 free throws in the final minute. Anderson finished with 24 points to go with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. No other scorer reached double digits for Cibona, but five players had in between 6 and 9 points for Croatia's only Euroleague team. For Zagreb, Tomic netted 18 points, Simon notched 12 points and Zoric added 10.
