Estonian League Semifinals, Game 2: May 7-8, 2009
Tartu Rock and BC Kalev/Cramo are just one win away from returning to the Estonian League semifinals, as both teams have a 2-0 lead in their respective best-of-five semifinal series against Valga and TTU KK. Tartu did not find much trouble to down Valga 63-77 on the road on Friday. Janar Talts paced the winners with 29 points on 12-for-14 two-pointers and 11 rebounds. Silver Leppik and Tanoka Beard each added 11 for Rock. Bears also pulled down 10 boards for another double-double. A three-pointer by Viktor Sanikidze allowed Rock to get an 11-15 edge after 10 minutes. Talts and Beard shined in the second quarter to boost the guests' margin to 28-40 at halftime. Talts fed Beard for an easy layup and added consecutive baskets to break the game open, 31-54, midway through the third quarter. Valga managed to get within 56-68 with 6 minutes to go, but Asko Paade and Leppik sealed the outcome with 4 minutes remaining. Meanwhile, Kalev overwhelmed TTU KK 63-106 in Game 2 on the road on Thursday. Kristjan Kangur led the winners with 16 points. Gregor Arbet and Josh Pace each added 13, Nate Fox and Rait Keerles had 11 apiece while John Linehan got 10 in an easy road win for Kalev, that led 34-52 at halftime and boosted its margin to 44-88 after 30 minutes, enough to get closer to the title series.
