Italian League finals, Game 4: June 16, 2009
Montepaschi Siena thoroughly dominated Game 4 of the Italian League finals, crushing Armani Jeans Milano 47-82 to sweep the best-of-seven series and claim its third straight championship. The result was never in doubt after the visitors scored 19 unanswered points from midway through the first quarter until early in the second to take a commanding 9-35 lead and Milano was never able to make a serious comeback. The win saw Montepaschi finish the playoffs undefeated and the entire domestic season with a 42-1 record, including the regular season and the Italian Cup. Ksistof Lavrinovic led the champs with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Romain Sato scored 14, Rimas Kaukenas 12, Terrell McIntyre tallied 11 points and 6 assists and Shaun Stonerook posted 10 rebounds. David Hawkins scored 13 to lead Armani Jeans, which struggled with its shooting and was doomed by 20 turnovers.

Montepaschi Siena will have it tougher than ever to stay as the reigning Italian League champion, as several teams took the challenge and put together competitive rosters to battle for the big trophy. Montepaschi stays as a top candidate to win any competition, as it keeps the core of players that helped the team to lift the Italian League trophy last season, such as Terrell McIntyre, Rimantas Kaukenas, Romain Sato, Shaun Stonerook and Ksistof Lavrinovic. Montepaschi also added ULEB Cup MVP Henry Domercant to add even more fire power. Fortitudo Bologna, Armani Jeans Milano and Lottomatica Roma are the main candidates to dethrone Montepaschi. Fortitudo landed Marcelinho Huertas and Uros Slokar to play alongside Stefano Mancinelli and Joe Forte. AJ Milano completely renovated its roster with stars like Marco Mordente, Luca Vitali, David Hawkins, Mason Rocca and Jobey Thomas. Meanwhile, Lottomatica landed teen sensation Brandon Jennings, as well as Primoz Brezec, Andre Hutson and Sani Becirovic. Avellino got stronger with Dan Dickau, Marko Tusek and Chris Warren to try to shock everyone again, while Benetton relies on Gary Neal, Rado Rancik and Sandro Nicevic to bounce back from an underwhelming season. Scavolini - featuring Sam Van Rossom, Ramel Curry and the everlasting Carlton Myers - and Montegranaro - with Darius Rice - should battle for a playoff spot.
