Slovenian League, Phase 2, Game 3: March 28, 2009
Helios Domzale took the big showdown in the Slovenian League this weekend by edging Union Olimpija 79-78 at home on Saturday. Helios ties atop the Phase 2 standings with a 3-0 record, with Olimpija right behind at 2-1. Nick Jacobson led the winners with 19 points. Alvin Snow added 18 while Aleksej Laskevic had 15 for Helios. Jasmin Hukic led Olimpija with 21 points, Saso Ozbolt added 15 while Marko Maravic and Vladimir Golubovic each had 10 for the guests. Helios used an early 12-0 run to get a 29-15 lead after 10 minutes, with Jacobson and Snow on fire. Helios boosted its margin to 56-37 midway through the third quarter, but Ozbolt and Hukic got the guests within 64-51 after 30 minutes. Olimpija rallied in the fourth quarter, as a three-pointer by Ozbolt got the guests as close as 77-75. Snow sealed the outcome with free throws, as another three-pointer by Ozbolt was too little, too late for the guests. Krka had to battle hard to edge Luka Koper 89-86 in Novo Mesto behind 23 points from Simon Petrov and 22 from Richard Shields. Geoplin Slovan edged Elektra Esotech 72-70 at home, as Dejan Maklar hit the game-winning basket with 4 seconds remaining. Last but not least, Hopsi Polzela defeated Zlatorog Lasko 77-70 with 19 points from Nemanja Jelesijevic.
