Czech Cup Final Eight: March 18-20, 2010
CEZ Nymburk is the Czech Cup champion! Nymburk lifted the Czech Cup trophy by thrashing Mlekarna Miltra Novy Jicin 66-48 in the title game on Saturday. Radek Necas led the winners with 13 points. Ron Lewis added 12 while Petr Benda had 10 for Nymburk. Robert Sarovic had 19 points for Novy Jicin, that led 27-29 midway through the second quarter. Sarovic singlehandedly kept Novy Jicin in the game, 37-37, after 25 minutes. Lewis helped Nymburk to get a 45-41 edge after 30 minutes. A 16-2 opening run in the fourth quarter sealed the outcome, allowing all Nymburk fans to celebrate the title. Nymburk had to battle hard to edge Prostejov 70-66 in one of the semifinals on Friday. Michal Kremen and Lee paced the winners each with 16 points. Ladislav Sokolovsky added 11 for Nymburk, that trailed 58-65 with 4 minutes left. Lee had 5 points in a game-saving 9-0 run that Kremen capped with free throws for a 67-65 lead. Lee helped Nymburk to seal the win down the stretch. Novy Jicin downed Synthesia Pardubice 74-89 in the other semifinal. Prostejov finished third due to a 83-77 win against Pardubice on Saturday. Nymburk had thrashed B & W Opava 53-96 in the quarterfinals on Thursday. In other quarterfinal games, Prostejov downed Lokomotiva Plzen 84-62, Novy Jicin overwhelmed Usti nad Ladem 87-51 while Pardubice defeated Decin 85-74.
