French League final: June 13, 2010
Cholet Basket won the French League championship for the first time Sunday by beating Le Mans 81-65 in the title game in Paris. Antywane Robinson led six Cholet scorers in double figures with 15 points and Mickael Gelabale added 11 points and 9 rebounds as the team dominated the second half to cap an excellent season in which it was also the regular season champ. Cholet built an early 21-10 lead thanks to some baskets by Marcellus Sommerville, but Dee Spencer and Maleye Ndoye helped Le Mans back to 25-20 at the 10-minute mark and J.P. Batista made it a 1-point game early in the second quarter. However Le Mans never managed to go ahead and settled for a 40-38 halftime deficit. Randal Falker scored 5 in a 7-0 push to start the second half and Sommerville soon added a bucket as Cholet built a double-digit lead. Gelabale heated up to put his team up 58-45 as Cholet confidence grew. Spencer and Batista kept Le Mans within 10 with five minutes remaining, however any remaining Le Man hope vanished as Cholet reeled off 7 unanswered points to wrap up the win with time to spare. Falker added 14 points for the winners, Sammy Mejia scored 12, Sommerville 11 and John Linehan 10. Spencer scored 21 for Le Mans, Batista added 12 and Ndoye 11.
