The Sheffield Sharks held on to beat Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders 99-104 on the road to remain atop the British League standings. Mike Cook led the way for the Sharks with 32 points, while Tafari Toney, whose free throws in the closing seconds iced the game, recorded 18 points and 15 rebounds. Tack Minor led Leicester with 32 points. Closing in on the top spot are the Marshall MK Lions after a pair of weekend wins. The Lions routed PAWS London Capital 102-54 on Wednesday and then the Essex Pirates 70-99 on Saturday. Frank Holmes shined with 32 points and 13 rebounds against London and 16 points against Essex, while EJ Harrison had 13 points and 9 assists against London and 28 points against Essex. The defending champion Newcastle Eagles also added to their win column with a 101-87 triumph over Airwaves Plymouth Raiders led by 23 points from Charles Smith. The other two-game winner this week as the Cheshire Jets, who downed Worcester Wolves 80-96 as Shawn Myers and Paul Peterson scored 16 points apiece and beat the Worthing Thunder 97-73. In other games, Worthing topped London 92-69 behind 28 points from Reggie Bratton and the Guildford Heat edged Plymouth 90-87.
