Israeli League final: May 27, 2010
Hapoel Gilboa/Galil Elyon shocked Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv 90-77 to win the Israeli League championship at the competition’s final four on Thursday night at Nokia Arena. Galil won its second title, adding to the crown it took in 1993 when current Maccabi head coach Pini Gershon stood on the Galil sidelines. Maccabi failed to win the title for only the third time since 1970, but for the second time in three years. Former Maccabi coach Oded Kattash won in his first ever appearance in a title game as a head coach as Galil stopped Maccabi on 27 points in the second half to turn a 42-50 deficit to a big point win. Kattash became the third person in Israeli league basketball to win the title both as a player and as a head coach. Galil forward Brian Randle was named MVP of the final four after posting 19 points and 6 rebounds, Jeremy Pargo and Dion Dowell added 15 each, Elishay Kadir scored 11 and Isaiah Swann had 10. Guy Pnini led Maccabi with 18 points, Doron Perkins scored 14, Chuck Eidson added 12 and David Bluthenthal finished with 11. Maccabi had the edge in the first half and Perkins had a great finish to give his team an 8-point lead at the break, but Galil stepped up in the second half with a great defensive effort and had the nerves to hang on until the final buzzer. In the third place game Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem beat Barak Netanya 95-82...

Israeli League, Season 2009-10
The Israeli League starts with the same script as in recent years: All the teams are trying to beat mighty Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Of course, Maccabi is the team to beat, as it lifted 38 Israeli League titles in the last 40 years. Moreover, Maccabi put together an outstanding roster with new arrivals like Chuck Eidson, Andrew Wisniewski, Maciej Lampe, Doron Perkins, Alan Anderson and Stephane Lasme. The fact that the title is decided in a final four format adds a little bit of drama and gives a bigger chance to teams like Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem, Hapoel Holon, Bnei Hasharon or Maccabi Haifa. Jerusalem landed Tre Simmons, Leo Lyons and Dijon Thompson as its new stars. Holon, the league winner in 2008, relies on John Thomas and Dwayne Mitchell. Bnei Hasharon inked Matt Haryasz and kept Ugonna Onyekwe. Last year finalists' Haifa landed teen superstar Jeremy Tyler to play with Davon Jefferson and Ido Kozikaro. Altshuler Saham Galil Gilboa, Ironi Nahariya and Maccabi Rishon Lezion will battle for a playoff spot, but will need to climb high to make it to the Final Four.
