Russian League, Game 14: February 24-27, 2010
CSKA Moscow keeps leading the Russian League standings with a 12-1 record. BC Khimki Moscow Region is second at 10-3, with Unics not far away at 8-5. CSKA thrashed cross-town rivals Dynamo Moscow 77-53 at home on Saturday. JR Holden led the winners with 14 points while Sasha Kaun added 13 for CSKA. Sergey Monya led Dynamo with 17 points against his former team. CSKA already led 48-29 at halftime and did not find much trouble to add another win. Khimki rallied to edge Triumph Lyubertsy 64-66 on the road on Sunday. Keith Langford led the winners with 21 points. Kelly McCarty added 14 for Khimki. Vadim Panin led Triumph with 17 points, Brion Rush added 15 and Paul Miller 12. Triumph led 32-17 late in the second half but Khimki improved its defense after the break and completed its comeback, 50-52, at the end of the third quarter. Triumph led 64-60 with 3 minutes left but six unanswered points by Langford, including the go-ahead free throws with 15 seconds to go, allowed Khimki to get back home with a big win. Unics topped Enisey 73-82 in Krasnoyarsk on Saturday. Maciej Lampe led the winners with 24 points. Kresimir Loncar added 16, Marko Popovic 15 and Vladimir Vereemenko 10 for Unics, that led 52-62 after 30 minutes and kept a safe margin in the final minutes. Spartak SPB improved to 2-11 by topping Triumph 80-76 at home on Wednesday. James White led the winners with 14 points. Levance Fields added 13, Evgeniy Koleshnikov had 12 while Yahor Meshcharakou and Milovan Rakovich each got 11 for Spartak. Rush had 27 points for Triumph, Pavel Sergeev 17 and Panin 13. A big basket by White sealed the outcome in the final seconds.
