Dutch Cup Final Four: March 26-28, 2010
Zorg en Zekerheid is the Dutch Cup champion! Leiden lifted the Dutch Cup trophy by thrashing Amsterdam 63-88 in the title game in Almere on Sunday. Ronnie LeMelle led the winners with 22 points. Danny Gibson added 18, Monta McGhee had 13 while Seamus Boxley got 12 for Leiden. Patrick Sanders had 15 points for Amsterdam, that trailed all the way since the opening basket. Zorg en Zekerheid got a 18-32 lead after 10 minutes and kept a double-digit margin all the way until the final buzzer. Back-to-back triples by LeMelle sealed the outcome, 54-80. On Friday, Amsterdam rallied from a 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and edge World Class AA Giants in the first semifinal. Alton Mason led the winners with 32 points - 18 in the fourth quarter - while Qaraan Calhoun added 18 for Amsterdam. Brandon Griffin led WCAA Giants with 29 points and 8 rebounds. The Giants led 62-44 after 30 minutes and kept a 76-65 edge with 3 minutes left. Amsterdam trailed 80-73 with a minute to go but managed to force overtime on an incredible three-pointer by Mason. It all came down to the final possession, in which a floating jumper by Dimeo Van den Horst allowed Amsterdam to advance to the final in unbelievable fashion. Zorg en Zekerheid edged GasTerra Flames 75-72 in the second semifinal behind 23 points from Danny Gibson and 18 from Ronny LeMelle. Matt Haryasz led GasTerra with 20 points and 15 rebounds. LeMelle followed free throws with a big triple to fix the final score, as Matt Bauscher missed a desperation shot from downtown at the buzzer.
