Fenerbahce Ulker wins Turkish Cup (photo: fenerbahce.org)Fenerbahce Ulker downed Mersin Buyuksehir Bld. 72-68 on Sunday to lift the Turkish Cup for the first time since 1967! Tarence Kinsey was named the tournament's MVP after producing 11 points one day after scoring 16 in a semifinal win over rival Efes Pilsen, helping his team break a streak of losing in the semis. In the final, FB Ulker looked to pull away early as Roko Ukic pushed the team to a 3-11 start, however Asim Pars and Inanc Koc carried Mersin within 20-23 after 10 minutes. James Baron heated up in the second quarter as Mersin forged ahead and led 42-40 at halftime. Nothing changed after the break and the two teams entered the fourth quarter with FB Ulker up 55-56. But Mersin scorer Dominic James went cold in the deciding period and Gordan Giricek upped Fener's lead to 61-66. Baron trimmed the gap to 3, but Fenerbahce Ulker was able to hold on and secure the trophy. Kinsey, Lynn Greer, Emire Preldzic and Ukic all scored 11 to lead the winners. Baron paced Mersin with 28 points, James added 18 and 6 assists and Koc finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds in defeat.
