Ukrainian Cup Final Four: March 13-14, 2010
Ferro-ZNTU is the Ukrainian Cup winner! Ferro rounded a perfect weekend and changed its own history by lifting its first-ever Ukrainian Cup title by beating BC Kyiv 82-74 in the title game on Sunday. Steve Burtt paced the winners with 22 points. Vincent Hunter added 15 and 8 rebounds, Alexander Rybalko had 12 points while Charles Thomas got 10 and 11 rebounds for Ferro. Maksym Pustozvonov led Kyiv with 23 points. Viacheslav Kravtsov and Denys Lukashov each added 17 for the runner-ups. Kravtsov gave Kyiv a 49-56 edge late in the third quarter but Burtt had 9 points in a 19-2 run that put Ferro ahead for good, 68-58, with 5 minutes left. Kyiv kept trying but all Ferro players were celebrating the cup title. Ferro had knocked off Ukrainian League leader Budivelnyk 86-89 in the first semifinal on Saturday behind 24 points from Thomas and 21 from Burtt. Gerrod Henderson led Budivelnyk with 28 points on 5-of-6 three-pointers. Budivelnyk opened the game with an 11-0 run but Ferro recovered and managed to get a 70-78 with less than 3 minutes left. A three-pointer by Khalid El-Amin got Budivelnyk within 86-87 with 10 seconds left. Burtt sank free throws and Henderson missed from downtown at the buzzer. Kyiv topped Azovmash 82-85 in overtime in the second semifinal on Saturday. Dmytro Zabirchenko led the winners with 20 points. Pustozvonov added 19 for Kyiv. Ramel Curry led Azovmash with 33 points while Demetrius Alexander added 19. A three-pointer by Rolandas Jarutis sent the game to overtime, 73-73. A go-ahead triple by Lukashov and free throws by Oleg Saltovets sealed the outcome in the final 39 seconds. In the third place game, Budivelnyk beat Azovmash 87-78 behind 36 points from El-Amin.
