Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 13: December 29-30, 2010
Regal FC Barcelona crushed archrival Real Madrid 95-75 Thursday at Palau Blaugrana to move into a tie for first place in the Spanish League. Barca dominated and enjoyed big games from seveal key players, led by Jaka Lakovic with 17 points - one of five Barca scorers in double figures. A 28-15 opening quarter set the stage and backed by a sellout crowd, the hosts held on for a victory that puts both teams at 10-3. Juan Carlos Navarro added 14 points and 4 assists and Roger Grimau and Erazem Lorbek netted 13 each for the winners. Clay Tucker and Sergio Rodriguez paced Madrid with 13 points each and D'Or Fischer totalled 11 points and 10 rebounds in defeat. Caja Laboral now trails the co-leaders by just a single win after it routed Assignia Manresa 86-65 the night before. Laboral held the visitors to 11 first-quarter points and led throughout the game, before stamping the victory by keeping Manresa to just 8 in the fourth quarter. Mirza Teletovic paced the winners with 17 points, Fernando San Emeterio added 16 points and 8 rebounds and Marcelinho Huertas ran the offense, dishing 9 assists. Fuenlabrada topped Asefa Estudiantes 72-65 for its eighth win, putting the team in fourth place. Xabi Rabaseda led the winners with 13 points, while Pancho Jasen tallied 16 for Estu. Spain’s other two Euroleague teams were also victors. Power Electronics Valencia downed Meridiano Alicante 65-73 behind Nando De Colo’s 23 points and 17 from Victor Claver. Unicaja bested Lagun Aro GBC 69-56 as Joel Freeland led a balanced team effort with 13 points and Rod Blakney scored 10. Eurocup Last-16 bound Cajasol moved up in the standings by beating Menorca 75-67. Txemi Urtasan scored 17, Louis Bullock 15 and Tariq Kirksay had 12 points and 7 boards for the Sevilla club. Gran Canaria 2014, whose upcoming Eurocup home game is the last one remaining in that competition, scored an 89-81 victory over DKV Joventut as Taurean Green shined with 19 points and 8 assists, Sitapha Savane scored 18 and JC Wallace posted a double-double. Two other midweek winners to improve to 7-6 and join Cajasol, Valencia and Unicaja in an eight-way tie for fifth place were Bizkaia Bilbao Basket and Blancos de Rueda Valladolid.
