French League, Regular Season, Game 15: January 20-21, 2012
BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque downed Paris-Levallois 81-75 to take sole possession of first place in the French League with a 13-2 record. Gravelines benefitted when Le Havre eked out an 81-80 win over former co-leader Chalon-sur-Saone. Gravelines used superior three-point shooting to get past Paris, making of 9 of 23 attempts from long distance, while the guests hit only 4 of 25. After a seesaw battle to the very end, the hosts came out on top by hitting more of its foul shots. Pape Sy and Andrew Albicy led the winners with 15 points each, Ludovic Vaty netted 12 and Cyril Apkomedah 10, while Eric Chatfield drilled 21 for Paris. Chalon had a chance to send its game against Le Havre into overtime but Alade Aminu missed the crucial free throw, giving the hosts the win 81-80. Three players scored 17 points each for the winners – John Cox, Nicholas Pope and Brian Boddicker, while Malcom Delaney had 21 for the guests. Le Mans handily beating Asvel Basket 84-72. The hosts led 45-33 at halftime and stayed in command. JP Batista had 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the winners. With the win, Le Mans climbed to third place with an 11-4 record, tied with Nancy, which lost to Orleans, 83-68. The hosts erupted in the second half to crush Nancy after the game was tied 37-37 at halftime. Cedrick Banks led Orleans with 15 points, while Brian Greene and Lebrun Mael chipped in 12 each. Cholet Basket roughed up Hyeres-Toulon 57-105 to earn the qualification for the Semain d'As. Cholet ran out to a 12-27 lead and never looked back. Fabien Causeur led the winners with 26 points, Robert Dozier and De Marcus Nelson had 17 and William Gradit 12. Nanterre beat Roanne 78-71 as Mykal Riley and Will Daniels drained 13 points for the hosts, while Dijon outlasted Strasbourg 65-55 behind David Melody’s 19 points. Poitiers barely survived a thriller against Pau-Orthez 84-85 after leading 51-66 in the third quarter. JJ Miller led the winners with 19 points.
