French League semifinals, Game 2: June 5-6, 2012
Both French League semifinals series will go to a deciding third game after Cholet Basket bested Le Mans 75-71 on Wednesday and Orleans topped Chalon/Saone 78-74 Tuesday. Fabian Causeur scored 18 and Roberto Dozier and Patrick Christopher added 16 each to lead Cholet in a come-from-behind win. Alex Acker and Charles Kahudi scored 5 each in a 1-18 charge that opened the second half and put Le Mans up 37-49. Causeur carried Cholet within 50-54 at the end of the third quarter to set up a wild fourth, which saw the score tied five times. The last came at 71-71 in the last minute on a J.P. Batista basket. But on the other end, Randal Falkar tipped in a Causeur miss for what proved to be the winning basket as Cholet won the game to extend its season. Batista led Le Mans with 21 points, Taylor Rochestie added 17 and Acker scored 12. On Tuesday, Orleans dominated early and then held off a late charge. The Orleans defense got the job done in the first quarter by holding the visitors to 9 points. The hosts scored the game’s first 7 points and later added a 10-0 charge en route to a 23-9 lead. The Orleans advantage reached 20 on a Brian Greene triple and peaked at 37-16 before a pair of Malcolm Delaney buckets narrowed the gap to 46-30 at halftime. Delaney stayed hot and was joined by Alade Aminu in getting their team within 69-56 through three quarters. Just when it seemed Orleans would be able to coast, Chalon came alive with 16 unanswered points and took the lead, 71-72, on a Blake Schilb basket with two and a half minutes remaining. However Orleans recovered with a Cedrick Banks basket followed by a Georgi Joseph three-point play. And Banks iced the game from the line in the closing seconds. Amara Sy paced the winners with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, Banks tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds and Greene scored 11. Delaney led Chalon with 22 points and Steed Tchicamboud added 13 points and 5 assists.
