Panathinaikos is 2012 Greek Cup champion (Photo paobc.gr)At the end of a dramatic final, Panathinaikos edged archival Olympiacos 71-70 at Hellinikon Olympic court to win the Greek Cup for the 13th time. The Greens reclaimed the cup after a two-year reign for the Reds, who lost a 45-58 lead to an epic come back of the defending Euroleague champions. Sarunas Jasikevicius was named the MVP of the final after recording 10 points and 3 assists. Panathinaikos took an early 29-17 lead, but Olympiacos reacted and thanks to its strong defense and uptempo attack, closed the half within 38-35. The Reds used a 11-0 charge at the start of the second half to soar to 38-46 and later grew the lead to 45-58, but then the Greens showed their character. Panathinaikos made 5 consecutive steals, forced their opponents to 8 turnovers in a row and regained the lead, 70-68. Giorgos Printezis tied the game at 70-70, but Dimitris Diamantidis scored a free throw for 71-70 and even though Olympiacos had the last chance, Kostas Papanikolaou missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Romain Sato added 10 points and 6 rebounds and Dimitris Diamantidis recorded 9 points, 7 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Printezis led Olympiacos with 17 points and 6 boards, Pero Antic produced 13 points and 5 rebounds and Vassilis Spanoulis added 12 points and 4 assists.
