Italian League, Regular Season, Game 3: October 23, 2011
Bennet Cantu and Pepsi Caserta are the last two remaining undefeated teams in the Italian League after the latter upset defending champion Montepaschi Siena 65-69. Andre Collins scored 18 and Andrija Stipanovic tallied 15 points and 15 rebounds for Caserta. Siena came from behind to tie the score at 65-65, but Stipanovic answered back and Alex Righetti sealed the win from the line. Rimas Kaukenas scored 15 and Bo McCalebb 14 for the winners. Cantu came from behind late to beat Umana Venezia 76-80. Gianluca Basile twice knotted the score with triples in the closing minutes and after Szymon Szewczyk connected from downtown for Venezia, Basile added free throws before Maarten Leunen put Cantu ahead 76-77 with a minute left. Leunen sank 3 more free throws in the final minute to ice the win. Basile paced the winners with 19 points and Vladimir Micov and Marko Scekic netted 12 each for Cantu. Timmy Bowers scored 20 for Venezia. EA7 Emporio Armani Milano bounced back from last week’s loss to take care of Canadian Solar Bologna 79-64. The Milano defense held the visitors in check all night and a 29-point third-quarter outburst put the hosts up 21 with 10 minutes to go. Antonis Fotsis scored 15, Malik Hairston 13 and Ioannis Bourousis 12, while Omar Cook ran the attack with 9 assists. Petteri Koponen scored 14 for Bologna. Taquan Dean scored 26 points to lead Sidigas Avellino past Benetton Treviso 83-75. After Vlad Moldoveanu put Benetton ahead 62-63 late in the third quarter, Linton Johnson and Dean responded with 10 straight points for Avellino and Benetton never got closer than 5 after that. Johnson finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Brian Scalabrine led Benetton with 18 points and Jeff Adrien tallied 15 points and 13 boards. Cimberio Varese, Vanoli Braga Cremona, Virtus Roma and Angelico Biella also won to improve to 2-1.
