Montepaschi Siena reeled off 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 45-62 lead en route to a 65-77 road victory over Cimberio Varese that kept the defending champs in first place with a three-game cushion. Bo McCalebb and David Andersen, who together had 10 points during that run, led the way with 18 and 17 points, respectively, as Montepaschi improved to 17-6. Bennet Cantu, which beat Otto Caserta 58-75 on the road; Banco di Sardegna Sassari which topped Acea Roma 68-72; and Canadian Solar Bologna, which brushed aside Fabi Shoes Montegranaro 77-72, are among those tied for second place with 14 wins. Cantu cruised after holding Caserta to 6 second-quarter points as it grabbed a 24-32 halftime lead and never looked back. Doron Perkins shined with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Manu Markoishvili added 18 points to pace the winning side. Travis Diener paced Sassari to its 14th win with 20 points. And Chris Douglas-Roberts went for 22 points to lead Bologna. Meanwhile Benetton's playoff hopes suffered another blow with a 66-77 home loss at the hand of Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro, which dropped its record to 9-13. James White posted 21 points and 8 rebounds and Jumaine Jones netted 11 points and 11 boards to lead Pesaro. EA7 Emporio Armani had a scheduled bye week.
