Italian League semifinals, Game 1: May 28-29, 2012
Montepaschi Siena routed Banco di Sardegna Sassari, while EA7 Emporio Armani Milan had to work harder before beating Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro in their respective opening games of the Italian League semifinals. Ksistof Lavrinovic amassed 19 points and 9 rebounds in Siena’s 91-68 win on Monday. Milan pulled away late for an 84-75 victory as Omar Cook shined with 14 points and 6 assists. Siena outscored Sassari in each of the four quarters, but it was a 15-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters that put the defending champs ahead for good. Lavrinovic started and ended the run, which made it 33-21 midway through the second quarter. David Moss hit back-to-back triples in an 11-0 charge that helped make it 54-38 by halftime and the hosts never looked back. Moss finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Nikos Zisis scored 13 and Bo McCalebb amassed 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Vanja Plisnic led Sassari with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Milan led by 10 through the first quarter and halftime, but Pesaro came back to move ahead 53-54 entering the fourth quarter. JR Bremer broke open a close game when he nailed a triple to tie the score at 63-63 midway through the fourth quarter and then hit two more to lift Milan to 69-65. Malik Hairston added another three and a pair of free throws as the hosts increased the lead to 76-68 and protected the lead from the line in the final minute to score the win. Hairston led Milan with 16 points, Bremer finished with 13 and Ioannis Bourousis 12. James White scored 18 for Pesaro in defeat.
