Russian League, Regular Season, Game 8: January 6-7, 2012
CSKA downed Enisey 80-102 on Saturday to become the exclusive leader of the Russian League with 6-1 record, while Khimki suffered a 93-80 road loss against Lokomotiv Kuban to drop to 7-2. And Unics outlasted Spartak St. Petersburg 71-59. CSKA used a 30-15 second quarter to ice the game by intermission, 37-56. Alexey Shved and Nenad Krstic led the way with 15 points each, while Anton Ponkrashov added 11 and Andrey Kirilenko returned to action with 10. In the last two quarters, CSKA just controlled the game, and 15 points fromy Lonny Baxter and 14 by Edgar Kikanovich was not enough for Enisey to come back. Lokomotiv Kuban routed Khimki 93-80 through a big defensive effort in the third quarter, when it limited the visitors to just 11 points for a 75-59 lead. Jeremiah Massey was unstoppable with 29 points with 11 rebounds, Primoz Brezec added 11 and Lionel Chalmers and Sergey Bykov 10 apiece. Vitaly Fridzon had 19 for Khimki, which never had the chance to climb closer in the last 10 minutes. Zoran Planinic drilled 17 and Sergey Monya 16 for the guests. And Terrell Lyday scored 20 points to lead Unics Kazan in a 71-59 success over Spartak, which led 36-37 midway through the third quarter on a jumper by Patrick Beverley. Free throws from Kelly McCarty made it 51-43 after 30 minutes, then Henry Domercant scored from the three-point for a 66-48 margin through midway of the last quarter. Alexey Savrasenko netted 13 with 9 boards and Mike WIlkinson had 12 for the winners. Beverley led all scorers with 28 points and Loukas Mavrokefalides added 15 for Spartak.
