Slovenian League, Regular Season, Phase 2 Game 5: April 7-8, 2012
Zoran Dragic - KRKA Novo Mesto (Photo: Adriatic League)Krka stopped Union Olimpija in its tracks with a 58-47 result for the visitors first loss of the season. That result combined with Helios Domzale’s 67-73 win at Zlatorog left Olimpija and Helios tied for first place with 4-1 records. The Krka defense frustrated Olimpija and held the visitors to just 8 points in the second quarter and 9 in the third. Overall Olimpija made just 13 of 37 two-point shots (35.1%). That defensive effort covered for a less than stellar Krka attack. Zoran Dragic paced the Krka attack with 21 points and Afik Nissim added 11. Deon Thompson posted 16 points and 8 rebounds in defeat. Helios held off Zlatorog for its fourth win. It was a 1-point game early in the fourth quarter and Nejc Strnad carried Zlatorog within 67-70 with 38 seconds remaining, but DJ Gay made 3 of 4 free throws on Helios’s next two possessions to ice the win. Gay finished with 18 points and 4 assists for the victors. And Elektra Sostanj edged Sentjur 83-85 behind 17 points and 7 assists from Ziga Zagorc.
