Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 18: January 28-29, 2012
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Regal stayed on track with victories to remain atop the Spanish League. Madrid handily beat Fuenlabrada 57-79 on the road behind decisive first and fourth quarters in which they outscored the hosts 30-50. Jaycee Carroll led all scorers with 12 points, while three other players – Ante Tomic, Felipe Reyes and Kyle Singler – added 10 apiece. Madrid cashed in on the foul line, outscoring the hosts 26 to 7, and eliminated second-chance points by grabbing 17 more defensive boards. Ferran Laviña paced Fuenlabrada with 10 points. Barcelona beat up on UCAM Murcia 90-53 at home, starting slowly after a 10-13 first quarter than blowing by the visitors through the remainder. Erazem Lorbek led the winners with 17 points, while CJ Wallace put in 13, Chuck Eidson 12 with 7 assists and Fran Vazquez 11 with 10 rebounds. James Augustine had 22 points for Murcia, the only player in double figures. Caja Laboral ended its two-game losing streak by beating Banca Civica 66-73, as Milko Bjelica, Brad Oleson and Mirza Teletovic knocked down 15 points apiece. Bjelica dominated inside on 5 of 9 from two-point range and Oleson and Teletovic combined for 6 three-pointers. Pablo Prigioni dished out a game-leading 7 assists for the winners, who used a 13-24 third quarter to secure a lead that it never gave up. Luka Bogdanovich had 12 points for Banca Civica, which played its first game without Cajasol in its name. Caja Laboral upped its record to 13-5. Gran Canaria outplayed Unicaja 60-49 at home, overcoming a 10-20 first quarter deficit to win the remaining three quarters. Marquez Haynes and Michael Bramos led the winners with 13 points apiece. Javier Beiran pulled down 14 rebounds as Gran Canaria dominated the boards 49-33. EJ Rowland scored 14 points for Unicaja, which slipped to 12-6. Gescrap Bizkaia outduelled Lucentum Alicante 73-60 behind strong first and third quarters. The hosts were led by D’or Fischer’s 14 points, while Aaron Jackson knocked down 11 and Marko Banic added 10. The losers were paced by Kaloyan Ivanov’s 16 points. Gescrap’s two-point shooting percentage made the difference, as the team hit 57% compared with 41% for the losers. Lucentum is now tied with Unicaja at 12-6, while Gescrap leveled its record at 9-9. Valencia took out Asefa Estudiantes 85-71 at home, ending its two-game losing streak, as Victor Claver pumped in 21 points and Nando De Colo added 20, most of them from downtown, where the winners did most of their damage. Chris Lofton led Asefa with 23 points. Lagun Aro outgunned Blusens Monbus on the road 80-88 thanks to a shower of three-pointers, as the team combined for 15 of 34 from deep.
