Turkish Cup final: February 18, 2012
BJK Besiktas Milangaz stormed back from a halftime deficit to seize its second Turkish Cup title on Saturday with a 74-78 victory in the final against BK Banvit in Konya, Turkey. The victory marked 25 years since Besiktas lifted the Turkish Cup for the first time, in 1987. Besiktas prevented Banvit from winning its first trophy of any kind with a dominant second half that it won by a 32-43 score. In fact, Besiktas won three of the four quarters, but Banvit's 24-15 burst in the second gave it a 42-35 halftime lead. Besiktas surged ahead 45-49 with a huge run after the break, but the game stayed close until the finish. Kenan Bajramovic scored to get Banvit within 74-76 with 11.8 seconds left, but Carlos Arroyo made the subsequent free throws to seal the victory for Besiktas. Dominance on the boards, where it pulled 43 rebounds to just 28 for Banvit, let Besiktas take the win. Pops Mensah Bonsu led the winners with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. The top scorers for Besiktas were Serhat Cetin with 14 points, Baris Hersek and David Hawkins with 13 each. Ersin Dagli had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Arroyo orchestrated the victory with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, while playing 36 minutes with only 1 turnover of just 4 total for his team. For Banvit, Serkan Erdogan hit 4 of 7 three-point shots on his way to 15 pionts, the same total as teammate Bajramovic, while Baris Ermis had 11 points.
