After near-perfect show, Madrid's Mirotic named MVP

Despite an 84-96 loss to two-time defending champion FMP of Serbia on Tuesday and a 29-point defeat the previous evening to eventual finalist Lietuvos Rytas, the choice of Mirotic as MVP was easy based on his dominant performances. For his three games in the tournament, Mirotic finished with averages of 28.3 points (on 28-of-33 two-point shooting), 13.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 3.3 blocks. His index ranking average was 48.7. Nothing prepared those watching for his farewell performance in Tuesday's consolation game, however. Except for committing a single foul, Mirotic could be said to have played a perfect game against FMP, according to the official game stats. In scoring, he shined with 35 points on 9-for-9 two-point, 1-for-1 three-point and 14-for-14 free throw shooting. But that was far from all he did. Mirotic also collected an astounding 23 of his team's 29 rebounds, 6 more than the entire FMP team. He picked up 9 steals, 6 blocks and 2 assists while drawing 10 fouls. The end result was a massive 84 performance index rating, three more rating points than the rest of his team combined.
