Joining him on the NIJT All-Tournament Team are point guard Francesc Iturria of Club Joventut Badalona, power forward Martynas Echodas of Zalgiris Kaunas and the Madrid duo of small forward Yusta Santiago and center Wally Niang. Crvena Zvezda led 28-24 in the final at halftime and increased the difference to 44-35 through three quarters. A 9-0 start to the fourth ended all doubt. Niang led Madrid with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Citta di Roma Tournament
The Torneo Citta di Roma once again has a new champion and it is Cajasol Seville. In the final game at Arena Altero Felici in the Italian capital on Sunday, Cajasol defeated the hosting team Stellazzurra Basketball Academy Rome 53-67, becoming the first team to earn a ticket to the final round of the Nike International Junior Tournament, which will be played in Milan from May 15 to 18, 2014, coinciding with the 2014 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four.
Ciutat de L'Hospitalet Tournament
Real Madrid became the second Spanish team along with Cajasol to qualify for the NIJT Finals at the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Milan after beating Unicaja Malaga 62-56 in Sunday’s final of the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet”. Jonathan Barriero poured in 20 points including the game-deciding three-pointer with nine seconds left to lead Madrid to the victory and an undefeated run. Emanuel Cate added 15 points and 9 rebounds for Real. Fernando Alonso scored 13 points for Malaga, which suffered its first loss of the tournament in the final.
To complete a perfect 4-0 run on its homecourt, Zalgiris grabbed an 86-78 victory over VEF Riga in the Kaunas NIJT final to punch its ticket to Milan in May. Zalgiris returns to the NIJT finals after a rare, one-year absence to join previous qualifiers Cajasol Seville and Real Madrid. In Sunday's final, Zalgiris overcame a soft start and a couple of furious comebacks by the guests to hold onto victory in front of its home fans. Martynas Varnas paced the winners with 20 points and was named tournament MVP. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Kristupas Zemaitis and Klavas Cavars of VEF Riga.
For the fourth year in a row host Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade has won the Belgrade NIJT Qualifying Tournament, and has earned a chance to compete for the final title, after holding off INSEP Paris 42-56 in Sunday's thrilling finals. Zvezda joins previous qualifiers Cajasol Seville, Zalgiris Kaunas and Real Madrid, claiming a ticket for the NIJT finals in Milan, from May 15 to 18.
