So far, so good, so green!
Hi to all of you!
The Top 16 has begun, fan interest is growing. The good thing for us in Panathinaikos is that we are getting better and we have had the chance to enjoy some special moments. We started out with a victory against Partizan in OAKA and what followed was even better. We won against Unicaja in Malaga, Spain and then we followed that with a win in the Greek League that marked the 1,000th in Panathinaikos history! This number 1,000 victory was a great deal for our club. Moreover, it was good for us that victory number 1,000 in the Greek League came along with a great performance for our team in front of our fans. We won against Panionios. It was something that we enjoyed very much. We really feel happy to be members of this club, of this team. This team gives us the chance to live moments like this…
Generally, we are in much better condition right now, both mentally and basketball-wise. It seems that we were on time for our rendezvous with our better performances, locking the bad ones in the closet. We talked to each other in the locker room and we agreed that we must give our best effort from now on. We have to deal with the Top 16, the final of the Greek Cup, a Greek League game against Olympiacos. So, a month piled up with difficult missions lies ahead and we have to do what's right in order to achieve our goals. Each individually and all together, we decided that we have to give all that we've got for the team.
Now, we have to continue playing at the same level in both Greece and Euroleague. The victory against Unicaja seemed to be the one that provided us with wings. It was of great importance. After celebrating and enjoying it, we had to… come back to reality. We all knew that we would be confronted with what came next and almost immediately: The win against Unicaja will bear no value if we lose a home game. We have to be careful and determined in the games to come.
We seem to be on the right track in the Top 16, but we have to keep it going, because the Top 16 has been justifying its fame so far. It's super competitive. Strong teams, few surprises, some question marks. All the teams are prepared to fight till the end. Even teams that we thought stood no chance. In our group, I think we enjoy the upper hand after the victory in Spain, thus we have an advantage towards gaining first place, as long as we take care of business at home.
All players know that we have to help the team. Drew Nicholas was a real plus for us in the last couple of games, but I believe that each player does his job on the floor. Some undertake obvious tasks, others act "undercover". There are specific roles for each one of us on the team, and if we go on in such fashion, I believe that this will end up being a successful season for us.
Take care, enjoy yourselves and we'll stay in touch through www.euroleague.net
