A decisive year for Yannick Bokolo is about to get even more interesting. Earlier in 2006, the 21-year-old playmaker helped Le Mans win its first French League title in 22 years and then stepped up to help France finish fifth at the World Championships. Now, Bokolo and Le Mans makes their Euroleague debuts together. As Bokolo proved throughout 2006 that he is an electric player who can change any game. He and Le Mans are ready for more, however, as they hope to become the team to beat in France while making some noise in their Euroleague debut. "Experiencing the World Championships in Japan was very useful for me," Bokolo told Euroleague.net. "Now, I think I have an idea of the competitive level to expect in Euroleague games."
How exciting is it for you to have a chance to play Euroleague basketball this season?
"We were working and waiting for that over a couple of years, and personnaly, I think that playing Euroleague games this season will allow me to improve my competitive level much faster."
What can your World Championships experience tell you about what to expect in your first Euroleague season?
"Experiencing the World Championships in Japan was very useful for me. Now, I think I have an idea of the competitive level to expect in Euroleague games."
For fans who don't know you yet, what skills does Yannick Bokolo bring to the game?
"My defensive qualities. Whatever happens, I'll do my best, playing with heart, so that the team can benefit from any of the skills I might bring."
How do you approach your first Euroleague season from a basketball standpoint?
"Even though it is a big challenge, we don't feel that much pressure. Each and every player on this team has a common aim. Upgrading our playing level is a challenge that will always be there."
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"To defend and to save our national title, and to go as far as possible in the Euroleague competition, trying to obtain a qualification for the Top 16."
