Tribute to the champs, Panathinaikos: Romain Sato
An all-around player who can impact games in multiple ways, Romain Sato fit the Panathinaikos system like a hand in a glove after joining the club over the summer and became an important part of its march to the title. Although he did not stand out much in a semifinal victory over his team of the previous four seasons, Montepaschi Siena, Sato came up big in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague title game to claim his first continental crown. His long jumper and a high-flying block from behind again Chuck Eidson, both in the last minute of the second quarter, helped Panathinaikos secure a halftime lead. After Maccabi briefly went ahead later, Sato drilled 3 three-pointers in a 7-19 third-quarter run that put the Greens back ahead for good. For good measure, his 2 free throws at the end were the final points of the 2010-11 Euroleague campaign, giving Sato he last word of a season to remember for him and his team.
