Tribute to the champs, Panathinaikos: Kostas Tsartsaris!
The longest-serving player on the Panathinaikos roster, veteran forward Kostas Tsartsaris completed his ninth Euroleague season with the Greens by brandishing the third continental crowns they won together. Tsartsaris had been a key as Panathinaikos surged in mid-season with three straight double-digit scoring games to start the Top 16. Tsartsaris was limited to reserve duty at the Turkish Airlines Final Four in Barcelona, but his role there was the perfect example of the team philosophy of giving maximum effort whenever called upon. At the Final Four, he used his big body and experience to great effect on defense. His own basket of the weekend came at the end of the third quarter of the semifinal, when Tsartsaris took advantage of Montepaschi Siena big man Milovan Rakovic’s foul trouble to go through him for a basket that established a commanding nine-point lead for Panathinaikos. Two days later, he was part of an impressive defensive effort that helped the Greens control the paint to close out Maccabi and secure the team's sixth Euroleague championship.
