Tribute to the champs, Panathinaikos: Dimitris Diamantidis!
The unquestioned leader of the 2011 Turkish Airlines Euroleague champions, Panathinaikos playmaker Dimitris Diamantidis completed an unprecedented season as the first player to take home the Best Defender Award, Euroleague MVP and Final Four MVP titles. With almost every basket, dribble, pass or steal in Barcelona, Diamantidis rewrote the record book. He joined legends Toni Kukoc and Dejan Bodiroga as the only players to win multiple Final Four MVP awards: Diamantidis also had been Final Four MVP in 2007 when he won the first of his three continental crowns. This year he also set a Final Four record with 18 assists over the weekend and tied the record for most assists in the title game with 9. Moreover, he finished with the second-most assists recorded in a Euroleague season (137) since the turn of the century and now ranks third in career assists (39) and steals (16) in Final Four games – all numbers fitting a champion!
