Tribute to the champs, Panathinaikos: Dimitris Diamantidis!
Once again in Berlin, five-time Best Defender Award winner Dimitris Diamantidis used his long arms to do more than lift another Euroleague trophy as the Panathinaikos captain. His speed and ability to stifle the opposition helped Panathinaikos to a second continental crown in three years. Now, however, it's past time to think that Diamantidis contributes at only one end of the floor. A blossoming outside shooter, Diamantidis drilled a pair of three-pointers in the second quarter of the title game as the Greens took a 20-point halftime lead. Later, when the game was on the line, he made both his free throws with 10.4 seconds remaining to keep Panathinaikos ahead and on course for its fifth Euroleague title. There is no doubt about it: Diamantidis is one of the game’s biggest stars and another major reason that Panathinaikos is champion again. Tribute to Panathinaikos 2008-09: Dimitris Diamantidis
