Things did not go as well as Joel Freeland had hoped when he first signed with CSKA over the summer as injuries limited him to just 12 Euroleague games and he missed all of the playoffs and Final Four. But when he was available, Freeland showed himself to be the presence in the paint the club expected and played a major role in CSKA’s fantastic record and lead-leading offense. In fact, CSKA went 6-0 in games when Freeland reached double figures in scoring, rebounds or performance index rating. For the season, his numbers prorated over 40 minutes per game were 17.3 points, 11.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. Despite being unavailable on the court, Freeland was visible in Berlin cheering his teammates on and celebrating the trophy, which he will be front and center in the defense of next season.
