The role of Baris Hersek in Fenerbahce Istanbul’s march to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague title appears to be minor based on the numbers, but the significance of the veteran forward should not be overlooked. Hersek saw only limited playing time throughout the season; he appeared in just three EuroLeague games and featured significantly in only one of them with 11 minutes against Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. However, the Turkish national team member did make bigger contributions in the Turkish League. In that role, he allowed Coach Zeljko Obradovic to better balance the minutes among his rotation between the EuroLeague and Turkish League. This season marked Hersek’s fifth in the competition. He is in his second season with Fenerbahce and also played the EuroLeague with two other Istanbul teams, Anadolu Efes and Besiktas. He has joined Ibrahim Kutluay and four of his own Fenerbahce teammates – Melih Mahmutoglou, Egehan Arna, Berk Ugurlu and Ahmet Duverioglu – as the only Turkish players to ever lift the EuroLeague trophy.
