Euroleague Basketball has announced that it will host the ‘Innovation in Sport Business Summit’ in London on Thursday, 9th May. The event, which will take place ahead of the 2013 Turkish Airlines Final Four in London, will include a high profile panel of sport industry leaders who will debate and share high-level insight on ways to innovate in sport – whether through technology or community-led programmes.

The ‘Innovation in Sport Business Summit’ will take place at City Hall, London, right after the Euroleague’s Final Four ‘Tip Off’ Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four Press Conference.

“Innovation has been one of the most important aspects in the evolution of Euroleague Basketball and we want to dedicate a part of the 2013 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four to bring some of the sports industry leaders to share and debate innovative ideas in sport” states Mr. Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague Basketball President and CEO. “The Turkish Airlines Euroleague coming to London is already an innovation, since it will be the first time ever that a European basketball championship will land here. Besides that, we want this Final Four to be a turning point with regards to its quality, and innovation will take a big role on this”

The first session, Innovation as a Revenue Driver in Sport, will host Norbert Teufelberger, CEO of Bwin; Ulrich Lacher, Global Director of Enterprise Services at Repucom; Simon Denyer, CEO of Perform and Antony Marcou, Group Managing Director of Sports Revolution. The panel of experts will debate on how technology has equally expanded competition and revenue streams in sports. From branding to content marketing, the panel will share insight on how technology enables sports properties to engage with potential customers and how brands, agencies or a media distributor can capitalise through innovative technology.

The Bwin brand has been built on the twin pillars of technological innovation and sports. From pioneering in-game betting through to creating unique digital content with our partners in football, basketball, motorsport and beyond, the success of our business is tied to the success of sport. This summit is a welcomed opportunity to come together with other industry leaders to debate how future innovations can help shape the future of sport and engage fans”, said Norbert Teufelberger, CEO of bwin.party digital entertainment.

The second panel, The Power of Sport. How can sport create a legacy?, will invite key rights holders and sports personalities to discuss sport legacy and development including UEFA legend Graeme Le Saux; Jason Morgan, Chief Executive of Charlton Athletic Community Trust, Simon Chadwick Professor of Sport Business Strategy and Marketing Coventry University, Simon Cooper Head of Sport at Mayor’s London Office, a One Team Ambassador; and Mary Davis, Regional President of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia.

"As official partner to Euroleague's One Team programme, Special Olympics is delighted to contribute to this important Summit. We look forward to sharing our experience in using the transformative power and joy of sports to create inclusive, engaged communities for people with intellectual disabilities in every corner of the globe" says Mary Davis, Regional President of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia.

Euroleague Basketball is dealing with different partners in the UK to promote its ‘One Team One London’ initiative; a community-led programme that will leave a lasting basketball legacy in the UK beyond the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four. The panel will discuss how programmes such as ‘One Team’ can make a social impact and grow sport at a grassroots level.
