Just hours before the tip-off of the 2013 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four on Friday in London's The O2, more than 100 high-profile sports community leaders from all over the globe engaged in a lively debate to share their experiences and opinions on business trends and industry news. It marked the first time iSportconnect.com partnered with Euroleague Basketball to bring together a panel of sports executives for its popular networking event, iSportconnect.com Director's Club. The panel of sports executives included Jordi Bertomeu, CEO and President of Euroleague Basketball; David Grevemberg, CEO Glasgow 2014; Mike Miller, CEO World Olympians Association; and Tony Scholes CEO, of Stoke City FC.
In his welcoming speech to the business representatives in attendance, many of which never attended a live basketball game, Jordi Bertomeu highlighted what is the Euroleague about. “From the corporate perspective, Euroleague is a unique organization being a private company whose owners are the clubs. From the sports perspective, Euroleague represents a passion for basketball,” said Bertomeu. “From the beginning, we understood that if we wanted to grow we needed to achieve investments. But if we want our game to keep growing, we need to keep looking into the future. Our priority in the coming years is to focus our activities in France, Germany and the U.K. We are in London, not only for our Final Four, but with the aim to help the growth of the game in this country, and with the ultimate goal to have a U.K. franchise in the Euroleague. That is our main objective in the next years.”
