NIKE IJT Madrid 2008, report: Maccabi Teddy 68-95 FMP
The winner of the two qualification tournaments of the Nike Junior Tournament - FMP Zeleznik opened the games in Madrid with an easy 95-68 win over Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv. FMP took a double-digit margin already in the first minutes of the game, climbed to the 20s before half time and cruised for the win until the final buzzer. Dejan Musli and Bojan Subotic led FMP with 18 points each with Musli adding 15 rebounds. Andreja Milutinovic with 17 and Aleksander Ponjavic with 15 added to the celebration. Noam Levy was the top scorer of Maccabi with 18 points, Carmel Bouchman had 15 with two blocks and Ben Reis contributed 11 points off the bench.
FMP wanted to make a statement right from the start and after three minutes already held a 14-4 lead. Maccabi pressured the ball and tried to cause havoc, but after a small adjustment climbed to 24-8 behind the great presence of Musli in the paint. Milutinovic and Ponjavic showed their outside shoot skills as FMP climbed to 30-13 early in the second quarter, before Reis in a series of good plays kept Maccabi not too far behind. Carmel Bouchman followed him with a fast break finish and a left side post up to make FMP call a timeout still up by 13, 36-23, midway in the second quarter. The MVP from the Belgrade qualification tournament - FMP's Subotic, got in early foul trouble in the first quarter but when he came back in the second it was time to show his tools. By half time he already had 13 points as FMP enjoyed a 50-29 lead. FMP continued to dominate and stay around 20 points in front of Maccabi throughout the third quarter. Despite the big margin FMP didn't get tired and kept looking to extend the lead. As Maccabi got tired FMP's Musli and co. extended the difference and finished with a 27 point win.
