Real Madrid raised to 1-1 in the Nike Junior Tournament after beating Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv 96-73 on the third game in day 2 of the competition. Real will face FMP Zeleznik tomorrow in hope to upset the favorites while Maccabi will look for its first win against Zalgiris Kaunas. Real took an early double-digit lead, climbed to 22 early in the second half and even when Maccabi returned to minus seven, found the energy to make another run and decide the game. Nikola Mirotic scored 25 points and added ten rebounds followed by Maximiliano Martin who had 18 with eight rebounds and Ryan Richars with 15 and ten rebonuds. Noam Levy scored 16 for Maccabi, folowed by Ben Reis with 13, Daniel Rom who had 11 and Nimrod Tishman with 12.
Reis enjoyed a good start and kept Maccabi in the game against a massive start by Mirotic, and after ten minutes only four points seperated Maccabi from the hosts, 17-21. Real came back to the second quarter with its hands on fire. Back to back long distance shots, the last of them by big man Rytan Richards, forced Maccabi to take a timeout down 18-29, but the Yellows came back with force, put pressure on the ball and made a 6-0 run to change the rhythm. Real climbed back to a double-digit margin, but Carmel Bouchman with a package of an assist and a three pointer brought Maccabi back to the game. Richards replied with the same deal as Real took a 46-35 lead at half time. Mirotic and Richards continued to dominate Maccabi's paint as Real took a 22 point lead, 61-39 which sustained until the end of the third quarter, when Richards dunked for 69-53. Maccabi weren't ready to give up yet, and with big pressure on the ball managed to make an 8-0 run while forcing four turnovers in a row by Real. Levy with a fast break made it just a seven point game, but Real replied with a 7-0 run capped with a corner three point shot by Martin, and force another Maccabi time out down 78-64 with 6:32 to play. Real kept pushing the ball inside and Richard with another dunk made it a 19 point game again, from which Maccabi couldn't come back anymore.
