Final Four Countdown: Regal FC Barcelona
Tuesday, May 4
Around 40 journalists attended the Open Media Day that Regal FC Barcelona organized on Monday in advance of the Final Four. All 13 players were available for small interviews and pictures just two days before travelling to Paris. Just as expected, two players were more requested than anyone else - reigning Euroleague MVP Juan Carlos Navarro and point guard Ricky Rubio, who will make his Final Four debut in Paris. The Open Media Day was closed with a couple of team pictures - first in the Palau Blaugrana stands, and then at center court.
Monday, May 3
Just as in every season that the team reaches the Final Four, Regal FCB is hosting its very own Media Day at Palau Blaugrana. All Barcelona players will be available to local and international media for interviews on Monday, May 3 from 17:15 to 18:00 CET. Barcelona gives the chance to get to talk to its entire roster just days before the event, allowing media to get first-hand information to hours before travelling to Paris for the ultimate basketball event - the Final Four!
Friday, April 30
All of Barcelona's fan clubs are getting ready to land in Paris on May 7. Three of them - Dracs, Sang Cule and Penya Meritxell - will together bring 150 diehard fans to help the team in the French capital. Penya Meritxell is organizing its biggest trip - 53 people - to the Final Four, and the excitement is over the top. "We will shout that we are the soul of Palau Blaugrana. We will bring Palau's magic to Paris. This is our sixth Final Four and we are proud to be back," PBB Meritxell president Jordi Salsas said. "This has been a very special year, we have had a near-perfect season. We will bring a 'champions' poster so we can show it at the end of the Final Four."
Regal FC Barcelona’s share of Final Four tickets, which went on sale after the club qualified for the big event in Paris, sold out within hours. They went on sale on April 9 exclusively on the internet and were snatched up quickly, most of them within minutes. There was such a heavy demand that the club website collapsed for 12 minutes. Only Palau Blaugrana season ticket holders managed to buy tickets, as they had priority and bought them out before the general public had a chance.
Coach Xavi Pascual has not hidden that with Regal FCB close to sealing first place in the Spanish League regular season, preparing for the Final Four has been the team's top priority. "We have started to get ready for the Final Four and that is why we lacked some speed at some point," Pascual said some time ago. Barcelona has a secret weapon - the team is 22-0 in all competitions this this season when Terence Morris starts. He faces his former team, CSKA Moscow, in the semifinals.
Reigning Euroleague MVP and All-Euroleague candidate Juan Carlos Navarro will have an arena in his hometown Sant Feliu de Llobregat, named after him. The town hall approved to change its main arena to Palau Municipal d'Esports Juan Carlos Navarro to honor its famous citizen. A Facebook group with more than 1,500 fans asking Navarro to be honored by Sant Feliu ignited the process. It is the second time that Navarro is honored by Sant Feliu. He was given a special gift - the City Rose - back in 1999, when he won the World Junior Championships with Spain.
