Final Four Countdown: Partizan Belgrade
Tuesday, May 4
Partizan held an official pre-Final Four conference with local media at the Sports Cafe in Belgrade just two days before travelling to Paris. Head coach Dusko Vujosevic, team captain Petar Bozic and star players Lawrence Roberts and Dusan Kecman were available to answer an. Kecman is the only reigning Euroleague champion in this year's Final Four and has the chance to win back-to-back titles with different teams, something that only Dejan Bodiroga, Ramunas Siskauskas and Sarunas Jasikevicius did in the past. "The Final Four in Paris is enough motivation for any player," Kecman said. "We want to play there as we played the entire Euroleague season - win a maximum of motivation, commitment and teamwork!" The press conference also awarded a local fan with his winning slogan with which to send the team off to the French capital: "Paris Bercy, Partizan Merci". That fan won tickets and a trip to the Final Four.

As promised, Partizan players Bo McCalebb, Aleks Maric and Dusan Kecman gave their support to the Blood Transfusion Institute of Serbia over the weekend, urging people in Belgrade to donate blood. All three players were available for autographs and pictures in the "Give Blood" transfusion bus - which the players signed their names to, also. Several Partizan football players and VIPs supported this good cause.

Partizan knows history when it's made. In one of the most exciting finishes to a championship game ever in basketball, Dusan Kecman beat the buzzer with a 16-meter bomb to lift Partizan to the Adriatic League title last week. Partizan beat Cibona 74-75 in overtime in front of 16,200 fans in Zagreb who had begun celebrating Bojan Bogdanovic’s go-ahead shot with 0.6 seconds left. With the game seemingly lost, Kecman took an inbounds pass from Aleksandar Rasic and banked in a three-quarters court shot to snatch the win. Partizan is auctioning off a coaching board signed by Kecman with the game data and position from where he made the shot.
Partizan launched a campaign to find the best slogan for its Final Four trip. Fans have been asked to send their slogans and the winner will receive a trip to Paris and Final Four tickets. The contest on Partizan's website is open until May 1.
Despite a busy schedule prior to Final Four that includes many Serbian League games and the Adriatic League final four, Partizan's football and basketball players and club employees have found the time to collaborate with the Blood Transfusion Institute of Serbia. The entire Partizan team visited a blood drive bus at Republic Square on Friday to sign autographs and talk about the team’s chances to succeed at the Final Four, while encouraging fans to donate blood.
Partizan has the support of former Euroleague winner Jonas Kazlauskas, who said the team reminds him of the Zalgiris squad he led to the title in 1999. "Nobody in Belgrade could even dream on getting this far, but they managed to make it and are playing the underdog role," Kazlauskas said. "They will be able to play without any pressure. That makes them dangerous. All that reminds me of Zalgiris 11 years ago. Nobody took us seriously and we managed to reach the top of European basketball."
