Juan Carlos Navarro, 2010 Final Four MVP
His trophy collection continues. After the team he leads made the Euroleague title game look easy, Regal FC Barcelona guard Juan Carlos Navarro was voted MVP of the 2010 Final Four by the 491 media members in attendance among 14,000 fans in jam-packed Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy on Sunday in the French capital. Navarro scored 21 points as Barcelona bowled over Olympiacos 86-68 by holding the lead from the second minute of the game until the final buzzer. Navarro was spectacular as usual, shooting 4 for 9 from three-point territory, 5 for 6 from the foul line and 2 for 4 on two-pointers for his point total. He was also Barcelona's top rebounder with 5, tying Pete Mickeal, and its top assist-maker with 3, tying Victor Sada. He played 29 minutes with only 1 turnover, too. By the time he downed a running one-hand hook over an Olympiacos big man in the third quarter, Navarro seemed like he could do no wrong and Barcelona fans began to celebrate their imminent title.
Navarro adds the Final Four MVP trophy to a long list of accolades. He was the full-season Euroleague MVP in 2008, won his first Euroleague title in 2003 and has been named to the All-Euroleague First Team four times, including this season. He has also won a collection of Spanish League titles and cups. With Spanish national teams, he has been world and junior world champion and an Olympics silver medalist. "I am really happy for Xavi, and as he said, when you go to a final with all the tension and saw how we played, everyone united, you could see the quality of our team. I am happy and would like to thank our families who suppoted us all year. This is the cherry on the cake and we got the grand prize." Navarro said. "Ricky has lots of talent, even if he's young. We saw how he managed his first Final Four and how he played in tonight's final. He's hungry, and when someone is hungry, they can give all they've got."
