Patrick Baumann, FIBA World secretary general comments
"Thank you very much Jordi Bertomeu, your excellency the minister of sports, friends of basketball, presidents of clubs. It is a great honor to be back for an event like this. Just looking around this hall demonstrates that the Euroleague is growing, that European basketball is growing, and we at FIBA are very happy about this. We are seeing growth from year to year, and it's a great pleasure to witness this growth. I am sure we will continue to see it, starting tomorrow, even more.

"Of course, congratulations to each of the teams that reached the final. I'd like to first offer congratulations to CSKA Moscow. I think there is no better way to pay tribute to Aleksandar Gomelsky, who unfortunately passed away between none Final Four and the next. Of course, once against, although it might seem a little bit boring, it is always very exciting to see those people in yellow fill the arena. Congratulations once again to Maccabi.

"Finally, I would like to say, just as Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu has said, that we are all together here after six years of up-and-down relationships, here with FIBA World secretary general emeritus Boris Stankovic, from FIBA Europe president Giorgos Vasilakopoulos, as well as NBA commissioner David Stern, and we are sure it will continue for years to come."
