Countdown
2002-03 Euroleague, phase by phase

Final Four Barcelona 2003A city that waited decades for this moment erupted in celebration as FC Barcelona seized the Euroleague 2002-03 crown at home with a brilliant 76-65 victory over Benetton Treviso. Barcelona had lost 5 Euroleague finals since 1984 but the ghosts were finally gone for good. Barcelona joined the ranks of continental champions while star forward Dejan Bodiroga won its second consecutive Euroleague title - becoming the first player to earn back-to-back Final Four MVP honours since Toni Kukoc did it in 1990 and 1991. Barcelona had downed CSKA Moscow 76-71 in the semifinals. Bodiroga and a key layup off a steal by Juan Carlos Navarro sealed the outcome in the final seconds. Benetton had topped Montepaschi Siena 62-65 in the first semifinal behind Massimo Bulleri's late heroics. Benetton kept its chances alive for 35 minutes but Bodiroga stepped up with 6 unanswered points that sealed the outcome. Bodiroga had been signed with the only purpose to lead Barcelona to the Euroleague title - and he delivered in a historical night for the club.
