Barcelona, November 7, 2008. Applications are now being taken for the third edition of the Euroleague Basketball Masters in Sports Marketing and Communication, offering students from across the globe the opportunity to learn from leading specialists in the sector. The master's program, a combination of on-line and on-site study in Barcelona and Venice, offers post-graduate training within the Euroleague Basketball Institute, an educational platform for anyone interested in improving or developing professional skills within the sporting world. Thanks to a thorough program of research and planning initiatives, the master's curriculum strives for constant improvement to broaden the educational activities and to improve business practices. A total of 74 students from 23 different countries participated in the two previous editions of the Euroleague Basketball Masters in Sports Marketing and Communication.

The master's course, which covers sports in general and basketball in particular, develops students into all-round managers equipped to cope with the increasingly complex world of sport. Students will learn principles of marketing and communication, sports marketing, marketing on the web, branding, sports integrated communication and events marketing.

The Euroleague Basketball Masters in Sports Marketing and Communication is built on a strong belief in the potential of teaching through technology. Students will explore the possibilities that new media and methods offer to enhance learning and teaching in technologically-rich environments in line with the leading developments in academic research. Those media and methods are shaped to be effective and comfortable for both professors and students.

The third edition of the Euroleague Basketball Masters in Sports Marketing and Communication commences on February 18, 2009 at the Euroleague Basketball headquarters in Barcelona and ends on July 17, 2009 during a special ceremony in Venice. The course is structured from an interdisciplinary point of view and is divided into phases: classroom, on-line course, sports life immersion, project work, exam and graduation day. The participants also will have the opportunity to participate in and observe a live sports marketing and communication event, the Euroleague Basketball Final Four 2009.

Five prestigious partner universities - Cá Foscari, University of Venice; University of Strathclyde, Glasgow; Athens University of Economics and Business; University College Dublin; and the Euromed Marseille, Groupe ESC - guarantee the rigorous academic credentials of the master's course. Their expertise makes for a truly unique course that combines high-level academic teaching with practical examples for the real world.

ENROLMENT
To be accepted to the Master in Sports Marketing and Communication you must have a university degree or at least three year's work experience in the sports management field or have been involved in competitive sport for at least three years. You are also required to have a good knowledge of the English language and good computer skills. You will need access to a broadband interest connection.

TUITION FEES
Total tuition fees are €3,000 (+ 20% VAT) to be paid as follows:
€1,000 euros (+20% VAT) as a confirmation deposit
€2,000 euros (+20% VAT) once the course begins


A reduced tuition fee of €2,800 (+20% VAT) is charged to members of Euroleague and Eurocup teams and is to be paid as follows:
€1,000 euros (+20% VAT) as a confirmation deposit
€1,800 euros (+20% VAT) once the course begins

Tuition fees include enrolment on the course, tuition, academic materials, online support, accommodation, meals and local transportation. The tuition fees cannot be refunded and have to be paid in full, even if the candidate withdraws after the start of the course. Tuition fees do not include flights nor shuttle transportation to / from the airport. Any banking charges incurred are the responsibility of the candidate and do not form part of the tuition fees.

PROMOTERS
Europe's premier competition, Euroleague Basketball, was founded in 2000 following a private organizational model, considered a breakthrough for European professional team sports.

The competition features 24 clubs from 12 or more countries per season and crowns its champions each spring at the Euroleague Basketball Final Four, one of the signature events in European sports. The 2009 Final Four will take place at the O2 World in Berlin, Germany, from May 1st-3rd.

The Ca'Foscari University of Venice, with its long academic tradition and international prestige, has always played a significant role in strengthening of the role of Venice as a cultural and high quality educational centre. The origins of the Faculty of Economics date back to 1868, which makes Ca'Foscari the second longest academic institution in Europe to have developed a high quality education in business and economics.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Classroom: The course starts in Barcelona - Headquarters of Euroleague Basketball, where the participants will have the chance to get to know each other and their teachers and tutors. There you will learn how to use the E-Learning platform.

Online Course: During this learning time, the participants will use the internet to have access to the lessons and teaching materials. They will be constantly supported in their work by the online help provided by the tutors and international faculty.

Sports Life Immersion: The participants will have the opportunity to experience first hand a real sports marketing and communication event during the Euroleague Basketball Final Four.

Project Work: Thanks to the tools and skills acquired participants will be able to develop a sports marketing or communication plan. The project work will be presented during the assessment week in Treviso at the Ghirada Sports Campus.

Graduation Day: At the end of the course the participants will receive a diploma during a special ceremony to be held in Venice at the Ca'Foscari University.

COURSE CONTENTS
The course outline is structured from an interdisciplinary point of view and is divided into seven topics:

Principles of Marketing and Communication
This topic tackles the main marketing issues and the assessment of the tools available to companies for understanding and operating in the market. Communication is considered from an interdisciplinary point of view including social, psychological and economical aspects.

Sports Marketing
Marketing principles should be applied to the sports industry as well as to sports events. This topic includes sports market analysis and competitive strategy.

Sports Branding
Branding is a critical marketing tool and its importance is growing fast in the Sports Business field. The main operators in the business need to know how to manage this aspect.

Sports Integrated Communication
Integrated marketing communication deals with a marketing approach designed to achieve a common marketing cooperation for all aspects of marketing communication, including advertising, sponsorship, sales promotion and public relations.

Sports Marketing on the Web
The internet will be analysed as a marketing communication tool, especially as far as online sports marketing is concerned.

Events Marketing
In this topic participants will learn about all of the specific issues related to the planning, management and implementation of sports events.

Euroleague Case Study
Several Euroleague Basketball case studies will be used to analyse sports marketing and communication in practice.
