As usual, the Spanish League stays as one of the most balanced and competitive ones in the continent, in which any team can be beaten anywhere. Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Unicaja and defending champion Tau Ceramica are the top favourites to battle for the 2008-09 Spanish League titles, but teams like Pamesa Valencia or DKV Joventut ready to battle for the top spots, too. Madrid kept its core of players, with superstars like Louis Bullock, Felipe Reyes and Axel Hervelle, as well as adding physical skills with forwards Quinton Hosley and Jeremiah Massey. FC Barcelona landed two former All-Euroleague players, Juan Carlos Navarro and David Andersen, as well as keeping Gianluca Basile, Jordi Trias and Ersan Ilyasova. Meanwhile, Unicaja has a new coach in Aito Garcia Reneses, as well as signing Thomas Kelati, Omar Cook or Robert Archibald to play with Marcus Haislip and homegrown stars Carlos Cabezas, Berni Rodriguez or German Gabriel. Tau Ceramica kept Pablo Prigioni, Pete Mickeal, Igor Rakocevic and Tiago Splitter to make sure it stays competitive at all levels. Joventut reloaded its roster with Simas Jasaitis and Luka Bogdanovic while Pamesa Valencia added Ermal Kuqo, Florent Pietrus, Dimos Dikoudis and Rafa Martinez to play with Ruben Douglas and Shammond Williams. iurbentia Bilbao Basket, with a deep roster led by Marco Banic and Luke Recker and Cajasol, that brought back Elmer Bennett and Michal Ignerski, are set to lead the race for additional playoff spots.
