CSKA Moscow: Winning through the decades
|
 One of the most successful sports franchises in the world, perennial Euroleague force and reigning Russian champion CSKA Moscow knows a thing or two about winning. Amid its record of five consecutive Euroleague Final Four appearances, CSKA captured the continental trophy in 2006 and reached the title game again last season, coming just short of a championship repeat. Despite modern record-breaking achievements, the new CSKA must share its place in history with some of its predecessors, since the club has been among the best in Europe for over half a century. CSKA is the owner of five European titles, the second-most of any club. It also boasts an endless list of 39 domestic titles in the Soviet Union and Russian leagues. The home to legends such s Sergei Belov, Vladimir Tkachenko, Stanislav Eremin and head coach Aleksandar Gomelsky, CSKA also belongs to the very elite of European basketball history, having won four continental titles between 1961 and 1971. CSKA always was the team to beat in the Soviet Union, and when the Russian League started in 1992, the club won that competition's first nine crowns and made Final Four appearances in 1996 and 2001. CSKA's modern era of European success continued with a record five more Final Four trips n a row starting in 2003, culminating in the 2006 title won in Prague. Five more Russian League titles and three Russian Cups have also come, but CSKA is still hungry. With its tradition, background, fan support, ambition and superb organization, CSKA will not stand for anything less than excellence. |

2006-07 Euroleague
As defending champions from 2006, CSKA guarded its trophy until the very last moment, losing only to Final Four host Panathinaikos after a dramatic final in Athens. CSKA had been the most successful team on the way to the Final Four, too, posting a Euroleague-best 13-1 regular season mark before becoming one of just four undefeated teams all decade in the Top 16. With its first victory in the Quarterfinal Playoffs, CSKA had amassed a string of 18 consecutive Euroleague victories, the best in-season win streak in the competition's history. In attempts to defend its title, CSKA could not have come any closer before falling in a thriller of a title game.
Russian League
CSKA won its fifth consecutive Russian League crown, its 14th since the Russian League was created in 1992 and its 38th counting Soviet Union titles by sweeping its best-of-five title series 3-0 against Unics Kazan.
Russian Cup
Defeated cross-town rival Dynamo Moscow 56-75 in the semifinals and Unics Kazan 74-59 in the final for its third straight Russian Cup.
