Haifa got 25 points by Doron Perkins, who had to earn his points from the line after drawing 18 fouls and hitting 18 free throws. Davon Jefferson added 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. In the game for third place, Altshuler Shaham Gilboa/Galil beat Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem 101-96. | The Israeli League comes off a shocking 2007-08 season in which Hapoel Holon came out of nowhere to win the title in shocking fashion. Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv had won 14 consecutive Israeli League titles since 1993 but despite not lifting the trophy last season, it is once again the team to beat in the competition. Maccabi improved its roster with Carlos Arroyo, Tre Simmons, Jason Williams, D'or Fischer and Yaniv Green, while keeping Omri Casspi, Lior Eliyahu and Tal Burstein. Holon will have the tough mission to defend its title with Luis Flores, Deron Washington, Chris Watson and Curtis Withers. Meanwhile, Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem will also be a top contender with Travis Watson, Timmy Bowers, Omar Sneed, Adam Haluska and Sharon Shason. Bnei Hasharon kept Ousmane Cisse, Cookie Belcher and Meir Tapiro while adding Haminn Quaintance and Shawn James. Ironi Nahariya, featuring Raviv Limonad and Aaron McGhee, and Eldan Ashkelon, with Steve Burtt and Rahshon Turner, will fight for a spot in the Israeli League Final Four. |
