| As usual, Zalgiris and Lietuvos Rytas will be the teams to beat in the Lithuanian League. Both teams have faced each other in the Lithuanian League finals each year since 1999 and it is safe to say that Zalgiris and L. Rytas are set to fight for the title again. Zalgiris will try to defend its title with many of its core players, including Jonas Maciulis, Paulius Jankunas and Dainius Salenga, back for another season. Willie Deane steps is as the starting playmaker while Loren Woods and Ratko Varda add size in the paint and depth to a strong roster. L. Rytas lost three finals - Baltic League, Lithuanian League and Lithuanian Cup - against Zalgiris last season, so no team will be more motivated. L. Rytas kept Chuck Eidson, Matt Nielsen, Mindaugas Lukauskis and Marijonas Petravicius, as well as bringing in Milko Bjelica, Donatas Zavackas and Branko Milisavljevic to stay competitive at all levels. Siauliai stays loyal to its philosophy with a core of Lithuanian players like Andrius Slezas, Saulius Kuzminskas or Virgilijus Praskevicius, as the team is set to stay as the third force in the country, getting closer and closer to both Lithuanian powerhouses. |
